Johanna joined the ShapeShift Pilates teaching staff in June 2019 and has over 17 years of Pilates teaching experience and is certified in Gyrotonic Expansion System. She specializes in youth dance conditioning and has extensive rehabilitation experience with knee and hip replacements, arthritis, autism, fibromyalgia, breast reconstruction, and Multiple Sclerosis.
In 2001, Johanna was introduced to Pilates in a modern dance class at CSULB. The class began with a half hour mat class, and then moved into the hour of modern dance. She immediately felt the results of the Pilates work and discovered the new connections while swimming and running.
She went on to receive a certificate in Pilates in 2002 through Advances for Pilates Technique taught by Marie-Jose Blom at Long Beach Dance Conditioning. While regularly taking and teaching Pilates, modern dance, and ballet classes, she obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts in Human Development from CSULB in 2005. Johanna also became certified in the GYROTONIC expansion system in 2006, while adding a certificate for the GYROTONER in 2008.
Johanna’s passion for helping others is evident in her teaching style and enthusiasm:
“My goal is to help you, no matter how old you are, to find strength at your furthest range of motion, while empowering you to know your body so well that movement becomes efficient with the least amount of effort. I am so grateful for all my many mentors throughout the years who have taught me how to connect deeper into my own body, and have given me many different teaching techniques that I’m excited about sharing with you!”
Johanna enjoys regularly expanding her repertoire by taking continuing education courses and incorporating Pilates into her daily life. She currently resides in Long Beach with her 12 year old son.
