About the Owners

Gina Brutti and Erin Lutz are the new ShapeShift Pilates owners. While studying at Cal State Long Beach, the two South Bay natives quickly became friends and soon after, roommates. It was during her college years that Gina discovered Pilates, and in 2005 she completed her training at Long Beach Dance Conditioning. After witnessing Gina’s passion for her career, Erin followed suit and completed her training in 2012 through Pilates Sports Center in Encino, CA. Gina and Erin both completed their Master Trainer certifications through Pilates Sports Center in 2014 and 2017, respectively. In 2018, the friends-turned-Master Trainers become co-owners of ShapeShift Pilates when the original owner retired.

What appealed most to Gina and Erin about Pilates was the dynamic nature of the practice for both client and teacher. Since every body is different, so, too, is every Pilates session. With seemingly endless modifications, Pilates can be tailored to accommodate expectant mothers, professional athletes and dancers as well as people of all ages and abilities. The mindful movement component of the practice- engaging the mind, body, and breath simultaneously to perform each exercise properly- is one of the greatest benefits and differentiators of Pilates from all other forms of exercise. It’s this combination of mind-body exercise and individualized variation that make Pilates suitable for every fitness level.

Gina and Erin have similar teaching styles that focus heavily on proper alignment and good posture which has led to a successful transition for them as the new owners of the studio. ShapeShift focuses on rehabilitation and fitness and therefore attracts a diverse clientele. Pilates helps to bring the whole body into balance by working every area each session, rather than the mainstream fitness approach that focuses on “leg day” or “ab day”. This method requires greater concentration and helps clients gain body awareness and noticeable results. Clients are taught the fundamentals of Pilates and given tools to use after they leave the studio.

It is being witness to so many clients’ physical improvements and increased confidence that Gina and Erin love most about being Pilates instructors. They both believe that consistency is the key to creating change, as did Joseph Pilates: “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see a difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have a whole new body.”
